About Us

LTM Music, Inc. & Language Through Music are a result of the collaboration of 3 award-winning educators:

Julia Ray earned her doctorate in education from UCLA. Her research explored the power of music in second language acquisition. In addition, she holds a BA in music, a MA in education, a California teaching credential (K-8), an administrative credential, and Orff-Schulwerk certification. For 34 years, she was a music/language resource teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), and for 9 years adjunct faculty at Citrus College in music education. Currently, she is adjunct faculty at California State University Northridge (CSUN) in music education. Throughout her career, she has served as a lecturer/presenter for local, state, and national conferences and a teacher trainer for several school districts. She is a guitarist, a singer/songwriter, a past Bravo Award nominee, and recipient of the Apple Award. In 1999, she was selected as Outstanding Music Educator of the Year by California Music Educators' Association.

Paulette Miller holds a BA in music performance (harp), a MA in music education, a California teaching credential (K-8), a Language Development Specialist certificate, and Orff-Shulwerk certification. For many years she was a curriculum writer, music consultant, and mentor teacher for the Yamaha Music Schools. For the past 29 years, she has taught with LAUSD, 8 years as a classroom teacher in bilingual classes and 20 years as a music teacher. Currently, she is a traveling music and a mentor teacher for LAUSD and adjunct faculty at California State University, Los Angeles in music education. Previously she was adjunct faculty at Citrus College, CSUN, and UCLA in music education. Paulette has served as a teacher trainer and presenter at local, state, and national conferences. In addition, with her husband, a flutist, and her daughter, a vocalist, she performs as a professional harpist. Paulette is a past Bravo Award nominne, and in 2008, was honored by California Music Educator's Association with the "Alfred Publishing" Elementary Music Specialist Award.

Vena Luthey attended El Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Panama, has a BA in voice, a MA in bilingual education, a California teaching credential (K-8), an adult teaching credential, a Bilingual Certificate of Competency, and Kódaly training. For 37 years she taught for the Pasadena Unified School District, as a teacher of ESL, 1st grade, kindergarten and pre-k-6 music, and as a coordinator for district Title VII and Title I language through music programs. In addition, Vena has served as a teacher trainer/presenter for local, state and national conferences and for 16 years, sang with the world-acclaimed William Hall Chorale. Currently, she is a music consultant for Pasadena Unified School District, on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, performs as a church soloist for Hogar Cristiano Congregation, and is the director of the Carol Choir at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Vena is a past Bravo Award nominee, and in 2005, was honored with the Rotary Club's Teacher of Excellence Award.
